Silanization is the process of functionalizing the silicon or borosilicate substrates with a silane solution resulting in the formation of a silane monolayer which acts as a coupling agent between the PEG hydrogel and silicon substrate thereby improving the adherence of PEG hydrogel to the silicon substrate [26].

What is silanization of glass?

Silanization (or siliconization) of glassware increases its hydrophobicity and is used in cell culturing to reduce adherence of cells to flask walls. Aside from clear applications in coatings and material science, the silanization process is also used in biomedical fields to anchor DNA to substrates.
