One of the courses an AKC agility trial may offer is the FAST course. FAST is an acronym for Fifteen And Send Time. The object is to accumulate enough points by performing the obstacle in your allotted time to qualify. During your run, you must also successfully perform the SEND at the required distance from you dog.
How far apart should Agility Jumps be?
You’ll want 2 strides between jumps. So, a 24 inch height dog will need the jumps 144” or 12 feet apart. A 20 inch cutie needs jumps 120” or 10 feet apart.
How long is a teeter totter board for agility?
12 feet long
It needs to measure 12 feet long and the base has to extend 2 inches past the sides of the plank with a gap that should not exceed 4 inches. When measured from the top of the board at the pivot point it has to be 24 inches, with the allowance to take an inch or 2 more or less, but no further.
How does AKC Agility fast work?
A FAST course requires a minimum of 2 contact obstacles, a set of 9-12 weave poles for Open/Excellent, and a set of 6 weave poles for Novice. Various jumps and tunnels make up the balance of obstacles on the course.
Can neutered dogs compete in agility?
Yes, neutered dogs can compete in agility. In fact, in AKC agility it is a requirement that non-purebred dogs are neutered or spayed in order to enter an event. In other venues such as USDAA, competitors are allowed to show intact dogs of any breed or mix.
How do you set up a jumping grid?
1. Simple grid
- Set up a placing pole, followed by a small cross pole approximately 2.5 metres (or three normal human steps) after the placing pole.
- The canter poles should be set one horse stride apart from each other, and the jump should be one stride after the final pole.
