What does the exhaust camshaft solenoid do?
David Craig

These solenoids are used to control both exhaust and intake camshafts, creating the possibility of lower emissions — and essentially decommissioning exhaust gas recirculation valves — as well as better performance and fuel economy.
Is there a difference between intake and exhaust VVT solenoid?
The exhaust valve is still controlled by way of an oil pressure solenoid, while the intake is controlled by an electric motor on the front of the cam. This allows valve timing to be adjusted with no regard to engine temperature or oil pressure.
What is exhaust solenoid valve?
These quick-exhaust solenoid valves feature a normally closed valve configuration. Air is exhausted through the exhaust orifice to quickly shift control valves to 0 psi.
What is a intake camshaft position actuator solenoid?
Replacement Intake & Exhaust Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valves – These actuators located on the cylinder head of your vehicle control the position of the camshafts. If either actuator fails on your Malibu, Equinox, Terrain or other vehicle simply contact us for a replacement.
Can you drive with a bad exhaust solenoid?
Even though you may technically be able to continue driving with a bad VVT solenoid, the issue can cause damage to additional parts, such as the VVT actuator. So, you should address the issue as soon as possible.
Can you drive with a bad camshaft position actuator solenoid?
Yes, it is safe to drive with a bad camshaft sensor. If a camshaft position sensor is not repaired, then you will likely experience more and more issues with your vehicle’s ignition system that could lead up to very expensive repairs.
Where is the camshaft solenoid located?
Beneath the timing belt cover is where the CMP Sensor is mounted. The camshaft position sensor can be found in the right side of the engine compartment at the rear of the valve cover.
