The main difference between a 9 speed chain and a 10 speed chain is that the 10 speed chain is thinner in width, because of the 10 speed cassette, which in turn means the chain is lighter.
Is a 10 speed cassette wider than a 9 speed?
Cassette sprocket-tooth widths Up through 9-speeds, all cassettes use very nearly the same width of sprocket teeth, and will work with 7/8 or 9-speed chains. 10-speed sprocket teeth are narrower, to cram in one more sprocket. As a result, 10 speed sprockets do not wear as long.
Can you use a 10 speed crankset with 9 speed?
I have done the same thing: 10 speed cranks on a 9-speed bike and I used the shims to install. Haven’t had any problem with them and shifting is excellent. So just use the 10-speed crank with the shims and you will be fine.
Which is better 9 speed or 10 speed?
Depending on what manufacturer you go for, 10 speed is usally only one more speed than a 9 speed, and not even so because your gear ratio don’t change much. Ten speeds are harder to deal with in setting up because they tend to be more finicky.
Can you upgrade a 9 speed to a 10 speed?
9 speed and 10 speed cassette are the same size.. they fit all the same wheels N hubs. only diff is the spacing between the rings and the thickness of the chain. you’ll need a new shifter, derailleur and chain to make a 10 speed work on a 9 speed.
Are Shimano 9 and 10 speed chainrings interchangeable?
Only the outer width is different, 10sp chains have thinner links. Hence, the spacing of 9 and 10 sp cassettes is different, but the chainrings are freely interchangeable.
Can I change a 9 speed cassette to 11?
Converting a 9-speed wheel to 11-speed You will have to buy a new 11-speed wheel and replace the entire wheel. On the other hand, if your current wheel is an 11-speed wheel, you can convert it to 11-speed by removing the low spacer from the low side of the 9-speed sprocket and installing an 11-speed sprocket.
Is a 9 speed a good road bike?
9-speeds are fine. I started out riding bikes again on a Shimano 9 speed (Sora). Sora gets a bad rep around here, but it was fine. I had no trouble shifting.
What size chain do I need for 10 speed?
5.88 mm
10 speeds. Chain width is 5.88 mm. Same as for 9 speeds: all the manufacturers can be mixed and a chain for one speed more can be used in a pinch – an 11 speed chain in this case.
What is the difference between 6-speed and 10-speed cassettes?
Old Uniglide 6-speed cassettes have larger spacing between sprockets, and like older freewheels, have the same shifting issues. 10-speed sprocket teeth are narrower, to cram in one more sprocket. As a result, 10 speed sprockets do not wear as long.
How far apart do you plant Tomatoes to get more tomatoes?
Indeterminate tomatoes allowed to spread over the ground will need a 3-4′ foot (0.91-1.22m) spacing between plants. Determinate tomatoes can be planted 1.5-2′ (0.48 – 0.61m) between tomato plants, and space rows 2-3′ (0.61-0.91m) apart.
Will an 8-speed Campagnolo cassette fit on a 9-speed hub?
8-speed Campagnolo cassettes will not fit on newer “9-speed” and “10-speed” hubs. 9- and 10-speed Campagnolo cassettes will not fit on 8-speed hubs. It is theoretically possible to upgrade Campagnolo 8-speed hubs with newer cassette bodies, but in practice the parts don’t generally seem to be available.
Will a 9-speed chain fit on a 10-speed crankset?
There is a lot of confusion about the compatibility of narrow 9- and 10-speed chains with older cranksets. Shimano says you should replace the inner chainring(s) with specially designated 9- or 10-speed ones, but then they’re all too eager to sell you stuff, whether you need it or not.
