Are MCF-7 cells triple negative?

MCF7 and MDA-MB-231 cells represent a striking example in that they are both invasive ductal/breast carcinoma cells, yet they have many phenotypic/genotypic differences: MCF7 are hormone dependent (both estrogen and progesterone receptor positive—ER and PR), while MDA-MB-231 are triple negative.
What is TNBC cell line?
The latter group is referred to as triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) based on the lack of these three molecular markers. Generally, hormone receptor expressing breast cancers have a more favorable prognosis than either those with HER-2/Neu amplification or those that are triple-negative [5].
Is MCF10A triple negative?
EGFR activating mutations mediate EGF-independent proliferation in MCF10A. As triple negative breast cancers (TNBC) have been found to harbour mutations in EGFR [28], we wished to determine how they affect a relatively normal breast cell line.
Do MCF-7 cells express HER2?
The MCF7 breast cancer cell line was transfected with a pcDNA 3.1 construct encoding human HER2 that was derived from a retroviral construct (Riese et al, 1995), and HER2 expressing clones were identified by immunoblot analysis (Figure 1A).
What is SUM159?
SUM159 is a mesenchymal triple-negative breast cancer cell line with high usefulness for many studies. Cells grow well in appropriate media with supplements. These cells were used to investigate the effects of novel inhibitors of signaling pathways (e.g. NF-kB).
Are MDA MB 435 cells HER2 positive?
Interestingly, the two cell lines used in the initial cell-line studies of BRMS1 were both ER, PR negative; and MDA-MB-435 was HER2 positive in the current study.
Where is HER2 normally expressed?
Amplification or overexpression of HER2 occurs in approximately 15–30% of breast cancers and 10–30% of gastric/gastroesophageal cancers and serves as a prognostic and predictive biomarker. HER2 overexpression has also been seen in other cancers like ovary, endometrium, bladder, lung, colon, and head and neck.
