FCU systems are of average efficiency only but if well maintained and operated can produce a good level of efficiency. They are generally not as efficient as standard alternatives such as variable volume air conditioning, chilled beams and displacement systems.

How are fan coil units controlled?

The Fan Coil Unit is controlled by a unit mounted controller provided by Mechanical Systems Controls Contractor (MSCC). B. On a call for cooling, the thermostat signals for the heating control valve to modulate toward the closed position.

Do fan coil units use water?

The unit gets its hot or cold water from a central plant, or mechanical room containing equipment for removing heat from the central building’s closed-loop. The supply pipe supplies either cold or hot water to the unit depending on the time of year. Four-pipe fan coil units have two supply pipes and two return pipes.

Is a Fan Coil Unit an air handling unit?

Fan Coil Unit (FCU) An FCU is not as complex or extensive as an AHU. It’s a singular system that can operate on its own to circulate air in an area without ductwork. One major difference between FCUs and AHUs is that AHUs can bring in outside air and heat or cool it (i.e., conditioning).

Do fan coil units have filters?

To reduce maintenance costs and to improve indoor air quality, most fan coil units are equipped with an air filter that is easily removed. While performing regular fan coil maintenance we see that the best units have great access to the drain pan and fan/motor assembly. The air filter is usually quite easy to replace.

How often should fan coil units be serviced?

every three months
Professional fan coil unit servicing Replacing the air filters is a straightforward task, and should be done every three months as a minimum. Some homeowners change the air filter monthly depending on their circumstances.

Is a fan coil unit a split system?

A split system is an HVAC system that has both indoor and outdoor units that are connected with copper tubing. There are many different types of split systems, which can include either a heat pump or air conditioner installed outside your home, paired with either a gas furnace or a fan coil located inside your home.

How long does a fan coil unit last?

The standard lifespan of an FCU is about 20 to 30 years; however, industry experts will often anticipate the former. Over those decades, the FCU will experience standard issues pertaining to what’s commonly known as ‘wear and tear’, wherein components within the unit will eventually degrade and lose effectiveness.

Why do we use a fan coil unit FCU in a HVAC system?

A fan coil unit (FCU) is a device that uses a coil and a fan to heat or cool a room without connecting to ductwork. Indoor air moves over the coil, which heats or cools the air before pushing it back out into the room.

Does a fan coil unit have a condenser?

Fan coils and evaporator coils are often confused because they both remove heat from inside a building. A fan coil (also known as a condenser coil) is responsible for several jobs, particularly in a home with a heat pump.

Why choose ability fan coils?

The most energy-efficient fan coil units available. Ability are specialists in the design, manufacture and global distribution of quality, ultra-efficient fan coil units (FCU). Ability use all their fan-coil expertise to create units that benefit everyone.

This is the more expensive option, and it also takes longer to complete the work. The lifespan of an internal liner used in fan coil units varies greatly. In some situations, it might need to be replaced in as little as 8 years. Usually however, you can expect the liner to last for 20 years or more.

Why does my ability Evo Fan Coil have a harmonic filter?

All Ability EVO fan coil units are supplied with harmonic filters to supress the level and severity of harmonic distortion to the supply voltage of an electrical system. These filters keep Ability EVO fan coils within the European regulatory requirement.

Do Fan coils need to be cleaned?

FAN COIL UNITS FAN COIL UNITS  All fan coils require regular maintenance. Filters, fans and coils need periodic cleaning to maintain their correct level of performance. It is therefore very important to leave adequate space around the access areas to make maintenance as easy as it can be.
